So its been a little while shall we say…

Art vend

I found out about the closure of Oriel Wrecsam (probably may favourite gallery) that i have such a connection with. It gave me my first chance to grab at the slippy old balloon of the art bubble dream back in 2008 on selection for the Wrecsam Open. But now revitalised and mowing into pastures new its last Hara was Art Vend. The project selected artist to submit 50 pieces of work to go to vending machines placed around Wrecsam over the next few months. The work I submitted took the form of a Digital Protection locked away in the little plastic casual.  Alongside this sits the brilliant documentary of the gallery in its closing weeks from https://twitter.com/OrielWresidency This was created by Simon Proffitt more of his work can be seen here  A real eye for detail…

Artist in Oriel Gwynedd

Time is flying by with the project over at Oriel Gwynedd, Bangor. You can keep up to speed with the work and what I’m doing here https://tocynnwr.exposure.co I am about to start documenting the closure of the old gallery over the next coming months.

Bodelwydden Castle

I have an Exhibition coming up from 25 April – 5 July 2015 alongside Susan Williams and Wendy Leah Dawson. I have been documenting the many signs of Tremeirchion for such a small village about 1 square mile with over 30 signs that I have managed to documenttre-20tre finals

Helfa Gelf

I’m also making a return to my third Helfa Gelf this year. I will be once again camped out in Haus Of Helfa, Llandudno after receiving confirmation of my work been selected. Think poems rubber bands and 360 degrees

Connect 2

Ffloc has been selected to work on a 3 week residency as part of connect 2 at Aberystwyth Arts Centre during May which will entail a visually projected element and poetry. This is going to be a massive challenge but great fun. This is to evolve into a bigger project IMG_20150327_160545

This is a poem about me. I went to my first Liverpool F.C game in 1987 and my first Widnes R.L.F.C game in 1983. So aged 3 and 7 them memories etch into your brain. A right of passage what ever you go onto. Know one can take your teams away from you. I was lucky enough to spend time in a recent exhibition in Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno. I the presence of a Box used by artist Gareth Griffiths to take his son’s to match at Anfield. The power of ‘The Box’ moved me…

Thanks for sharing it with us Gareth!

Road End

Not my White box.

Someone else’s vantage point,

chips hold stories,

celebration, sadness, glory.

On that afternoon,

like a full stop,

alone it stood,

together, raised scarfs taught.

Your words made me feel 9

The feeling surrounds me lots of looking up.

The raised rim on a plastic flask mug.

The floor touching my feet through worn souls.

The Safety and smells of cut grass before me.

Winter cold rattles my mittens.

Floodlight halo’s dot my eyes.

Barbwire fences brown glass spikes.

Thousands packed in tight.

Now I’m back and still no connection?

Just know I’ve been there.

A time so much simpler?

Black and white Red or blue…

Somethings are like red wine stains, they are difficult to remove with time get faint but will always last. You can add formulas to remove them. This is my formula!

Cleaning mess of some guys trade.

Right place wrong face.

Scrap heap imprint stupidity,

please give me some validity.

Closure of the grinding,

mini cans close my mind in.

Musical defibrillation.

No else to confined with.

Time has raced to evolve on.

Scared but wise, still I despise.

Now I’m here, thoughts, no care.

The grinding sparks have untied me.

Your age shows experience.

delivery, I can’t contain this.

Feeling the greater love,

enormous glow music buzz.

I look to crashing tides.

Screens project our minds.

Well trodden yet fresh,

just this time its mine.

Last night cleansed me.

The vocal lifeline echoes.

Your mess connecting to me

love rein on me

3 1/2 hours on train in 25 degrees builds a certain momentum to leave. Add this with the deadline of a departing flight to catch. In the time on the train from Milazzo to Palermo the only entertainment was a rather large bee that was flying up and down the carriage. If i could have vignetted the corners of my field of vision it would have been a seen from a classic european film. Everyone was watching this bee with a look of ‘don’t come near me’. It could have run a mock on the packed train. It also got me thinking that when it went backwards down the carriage does that class as time travel?

Last Call For Whitfield

Churn,
On time,
Just!
Mount settle breath.

Sound makes sense,
but I don’t understand.
Round beads form,
Fall like the words.

Moving fast,
Time dam slow!
How long can it last.
Where to look.

And I’m sick of the sea,
straight blue line beauty,
Following me home,
Crashing harrowing free.

A dog sleeps alone.
The platform grown.
Drunk man ego.

Bump!

I arrive,
Get me out,
Away.
To be free…

Father Christmas sent me to London to go around Abbey Rd studios. The never opened space where so many beautiful things have happened from Shirley Bassey The Hollies to Pink Floyd. its kind of weird to describe the space. You have to go in it to get it. if i said when they played the various songs in the talk for instance the Beatles Hey Jude. If you listened closely the notes in the song had the same hushed resonance that the people talking in Studio 2 had. It was a room with people all pulling that bring that minute back expression to over listening e.p’s l.p’s and bootlegs. These images aren’t the best photographs I’ve ever taken as you will see it was a bit packed but like the albums recorded here use your imagination 🙂

Above is a sound partition that said The Hollies were keen on using. This was the first of many things i stared at longingly trying to extract the memories of magic that had been created in its presence. Tony hicks Graham Nash and Allan Clarke for me nailed the harmonies better than George Harrison John Lennon and Paul McCartney

P1030767

The Mono and Stereo recorders Custom made for EMI and the Abbey Rd Engineers. Abbey Rd made its first recording in 1934 but as with most things the cost was to high and demand was not there. We watched the footage of the 1934 Recording of Stereo panning from left to right on the screen to show movement.

P1030768

This little beauty changed the way of the musical world with Stereo albums with Help! It was used till the end of the 70s so its got a bit of history.

The two above images are the 8 track desks the Dark Side of The Moon was Recorded on. This could be the finest sets of nobs I’ve ever seen!

One of the amps from 1962 onwards…

The sound is dampened by these fabric blankets originally filled with dry seaweed but now something less flammable.

P1030773

If you look closely you can read the Writing for the Altec Rs124 Compressor. I love the fact that all this stuff is still used today

P1030774

Strawberry Fields Forever is all i thought about while looking at this. I can say no more…

P1030775 P1030776

Priceless! used on Yer blues!

P1030777 P1030778

Nowhere Man was recorded on this little beauty which fits in with the above image around 1965 1966. Maybe that is what he was playing?

P1030780 P1030779

The Above Piano was used for Hey Jude. I’m probably doing the artists a miss service as for what they have been used to record with but it was heavy on The Beatles in the talk. All there pianos were used for the end note on A Day In The Life which they got three people from the crowd to perform. They just let the note resonate after it had struck on the keys. it was like listening to album 🙂

P1030781 P1030782

The Celeste was used on Dark Side oF The Moon Track Time for its haunting intro which they also played. Richard Wright so sadly missed

P1030783

As you can see it was pretty full. this was the only room you could go in as Hall 1 used for Classical music and film scores. Which in the 1980s saved the building which was going to get turned into small recording studios until the scores for Empires strikes back, return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones were recorded in Abbey rd. Also Dave Gilmour recorded Shine On You Crazy Diamond solo in the vast hall 1

P1030784

They shown footage of Cilla Black over singing a song on this mic that she had Burt Bacharach flown in to compose. The guys doing the talk also made fun of this. I think  Bob Carolgees was doing backing vocals

P1030785

These are the semi original chairs brought in 1958 for Cliff Richard and The Shadows with metal frames to reduce any creaking so basically any one you see sat in Abbey Rd recording sits on these. I just know I sat on John Lennon’s that he recorded across the universe on 😉

P1030787

Heres me actually silent for once

P1030788

Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9

I though rather than naffly reacting crossing the zebra crossing outside photo (which sadly they had shown ‘friend of the people’ Margret Thatcher doing) in a video. I worked out which line Lennon had his foot on the album cover. Sad but original 🙂

I had some good thinking time over the Christmas break and this what i come up with. It was filmed above Penmeanmawr quarry in Conwy North Wales. It’s great it has that on top of the world feel

Heres the words from the video

Three Thoughts

spent like taught timber,
i leave my slumber.
unhappy i repine.
there are many points,
all of which i plunder.

burst the ballyhoo.
in the clearing its dark.
no red brest.
just the longest legs.
branches make me rethink.
evergreen the pine waves.
i know that man in the dark,
i feel safe again he looks out for me.

returning to this warmth.
a strange sensation, i felt like an island.
unknown to where, a week later i see it on the horizon.
out at sea me safe under the tree.
thoughts so clear even the unattainable is changeable.
falling sleepy at last I’m one with me.

This is the video of me performing a visual projection on Conwy Castle in North Wales. It was part of the blinc digital arts festival 2012. I wrote it while traveling along the A5 between Capel Curig and Bethesda in the Snowdonia National park. It was written listening to the Beach boys on one of the only sunny days that we had this summer

Well what a Weekend. Dogged by technical problems due to the power timers in the lights. I had a good response to the poems in the Bird Boxes along the cob leading you into Conwy and my projection on the castle. Thousands of people headed to Conwy, North Wales over the Three day blinc digital artsfestival. inspired by the work of Alan Turing. Which took place in the evening after the Conwy feast eating extravaganza.

All the indents for my work were done by Ronan Devlin www.orieljeindevlin.com

This was up on friday at 3pm when i felt like the world was going to end. I had so much support from the people running blinc.

You can listen to all my poems here My #noirconwy that was projected from the bird boxes

My A5 Poem Projection

The highlight was seeing my face on the castle (photography by Roger Smith check out his work it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/roj/ )

I’ve reworked the projection for the small screen 🙂

I felt so much joy from the weekend after the stress and deflation from the hectic build up on thursday and friday. I just sat on sunday all night thing where I was this time last year. What better way to capture my feelings than I n a few words.

Of an eye…

At the start of winter nights

Mist enhances light.

Cold soles warm heart.

The projection knights.

The homeless man,

He took it in.

Told me don’t fear the dark,

just watch the rain

I now can stride.

In the past I tried,

Ancient brick walls

Beam with pride.

Its drawing in,

Water on skin.

The streets feel.

The last night still

stoking the glow.

We must move,

Project our souls.

Now understanding,

By passing our goals?
